Lucid electric vehicles are seen at the New York International Auto Show on April 2, 2026.

Danielle DeVries | CNBC

Lucid Group has named the former chairman and CEO of Schindler Group, an industrial manufacturer of escalators and elevators, as its new chief executive.

Silvio Napoli, who spent nearly 31 years at Schindler, is set to become the all-electric vehicle maker’s second CEO following the abrupt departure of Lucid founder Peter Rawlinson in February 2025.

Interim CEO Marc Winterhoff will remain with the company as its chief operating officer once Napoli takes the reins, according to Lucid. A company spokesman said Napoli is expected to begin as CEO in the coming weeks, pending completion of his relocation from Switzerland and U.S. visa process.

Shares of Lucid fell roughly 5% in midday trading, as the company also announced expanded investments Tuesday of $750 million from an affiliate of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund — its largest shareholder — and Uber Technologies.

The latter is an expansion of a previously announced tie-up with Uber that includes the ride-hailing company investing another $200 million in Lucid. Uber has also agreed to purchase at least 35,000 Lucid vehicles designed exclusively for use as part of Uber’s future global robotaxi service. That’s up from $300 million and 20,00 vehicles announced in July.

The PIF-backed investment is $550 million, according to Lucid.

Napoli, who also serves on the board of American-Irish multinational power management company Eaton Corp., has not previously led an auto company before, while Rawlinson and Winterhoff are automotive veterans.

The company said Napoli’s “deep operational expertise, financial discipline and track record of leadership in innovation” would position Lucid for its future growth plans, including upcoming midsize EVs and new autonomy initiatives.

“His expertise in capital allocation, operational efficiency and translating advanced technology into consistent high-quality performance over time will be critical as Lucid continues to scale and execute its strategy,” Lucid Chairman Turqi Alnowaiser said in a statement.

Jonathan Raa | Nurphoto | Getty Images

Broadcom shares rose more than 6% on Tuesday, their second-best day of the year, after the chip designer announced it would produce future versions of artificial intelligence chips for Google, and signed an expanded deal with Anthropic.

The pact with Anthropic will give the AI startup access to about 3.5 gigawatts worth of computing capacity, drawing on Google’s homegrown tensor processing units, or TPUs.

Broadcom’s stock has endured a tough start to 2025, falling almost 10% prior to Tuesday’s rally, as concerns about the AI buildout coupled with soaring energy costs caused by the war in Iran pushed investors out of many leading tech names.

Analysts at Mizuho maintained their buy recommendation on Broadcom and wrote in a report on Tuesday that the deals with Google and Anthropic are a boon to the company’s AI business, and that “the tighter TPU partnership strengthens AVGO’s position.”

Last month, Broadcom reported blowout earnings, and CEO Hock Tan touted strong future demand for the company’s chips. He told analysts that he anticipates AI chip revenue in 2027 that’s “significantly in excess of $100 billion.”

Matt Britzman, an analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, said the latest deals “should help ease some of the recent nervousness around TPU competition” and indicate that Broadcom’s “largest customer sees meaningful demand visibility well into the future.”

“We already saw upside to medium-term revenue and profit expectations off the back of recent results; these new deals help underpin that idea if deployment ramps as planned,” Britzman said.

Citi analysts maintained their buy rating for the stock, seeing Broadcom surpassing its $100 billion revenue target and reaching more than $130 billion off the back of the Google deal.

FanDuel has been cleared by the Michigan Gaming Control Board to connect its online poker platform with players in other states, opening a new chapter for the state’s regulated market. Once implemented, the change will allow Michigan users on FanDuel to compete directly with players across state lines for the first time on the platform.

The regulator confirmed the decision Wednesday (April 1) after completing a review of FanDuel’s systems and controls. Officials examined technical standards such as geolocation accuracy, data security, and responsible gaming tools to ensure they hold up in a shared, multi-state environment.

In gambling news, the PokerStars platform is moving to FanDuel, effective today. Poker now will be available on FanDuel in Michigan.

— Tony Paul | Detroit News (@TonyPaul1984) April 1, 2026

“FanDuel is a well-established operator in the Michigan gaming market,” MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams said.

“Michigan players can have confidence in the integrity of the games they play, backed by the same rigorous oversight the MGCB applies across all licensed gaming activity.”

Michigan became part of the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement in 2022, though each operator must still secure individual approval before linking player pools. With this authorization, FanDuel joins the limited group of platforms able to expand beyond state-only poker ecosystems.

For players, the benefits are expected to show up quickly. A larger network typically leads to more active tables throughout the day and bigger tournament prize pools, addressing long-standing limitations tied to smaller, state-based player pools.

How FanDuel multi-state poker changes the market in Michigan

Shared liquidity has been one of the biggest missing ingredients in U.S. online poker. By combining players across multiple jurisdictions, operators can keep games running consistently and offer more competitive prize structures, making the experience more appealing overall.

Michigan regulators stated that local protections will still apply. Even when competing against out-of-state players, Michigan users remain subject to in-state rules covering identity checks, age restrictions, and responsible gaming measures.

The move also lines up with enforcement and market-building efforts in the state. Regulators recently issued cease-and-desist letters to 12 offshore gambling operators accused of targeting Michigan residents without licenses.

Meanwhile, FanDuel has been expanding across multiple verticals as the U.S. online gaming market grows. Alongside its poker ambitions, the company has rolled out new jackpot-style features in its online casino offerings, pooling prize money across larger groups of players to create bigger potential payouts. This has now been extended to poker.

The company has not announced a firm launch date for multi-state poker in Michigan.

Nvidia has agreed to license chip technology from startup Groq and hire away its CEO, a veteran of Alphabet’s Google, Groq said in a blog post on Wednesday.

Groq specializes in what is known as inference, where artificial intelligence models that have already been trained respond to requests from users.

While Nvidia dominates the market for training AI models, it faces much more competition in inference, where traditional rivals such as Advanced Micro Devices have aimed to challenge it as well as startups such as Groq and Cerebras Systems.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang spent much of his biggest keynote speech of 2025 arguing that Nvidia would be able to maintain its lead as AI markets shift from training to inference. Getty Images

Groq said that Nvidia had agreed to a “non-exclusive” license to Groq’s technology. Groq said that its founder Jonathan Ross, who helped Google start its AI chip program, as well as Groq President Sunny Madra and other members of its engineering team will join Nvidia.

A person close to Nvidia confirmed the licensing agreement.

Groq did not disclose financial details of the deal. CNBC earlier reported that Nvidia had agreed to acquire Groq for $20 billion in cash, but neither Nvidia nor Groq commented on the report. Groq said in its blog post that it will continue to operate as an independent company with Simon Edwards as CEO and that its cloud business will continue operating.

Groq more than doubled its valuation to $6.9 billion, from $2.8 billion in August last year, following a $750 million funding round in September.

Groq more than doubled its valuation to $6.9 billion, from $2.8 billion in August last year, following a $750 million funding round in September. via REUTERS

Groq is one of a number of upstarts that do not use external high-bandwidth memory chips, which free them from the memory crunch affecting the global chip industry. The approach, which uses a form of on-chip memory called SRAM, helps speed up interactions with chatbots and other AI models but also limits the size of the model that can be served.

Groq’s primary rival in the approach is Cerebras Systems, which Reuters earlier this month reported plans to go public as soon as next year. Both Groq and Cerebras have signed large deals in the Middle East.

Merkur Group has expanded its partnership with electronic table game developer Spintec to acquire a “significant stake” in the company.

After initially investing back in 2019, Merkur Group has now acquired what it describes as “a significant stake” in Slovenia-based developer and of electronic table games (ETGs) Spintec d.o.o.

“Spintec is a highly innovative and successful ETG specialist, distinguished above all by outstanding quality and a strong global footprint,” said Dominik Raasch, Management Board Member, Merkur Games in a press statement. “This investment is a real asset for the Merkur Group and an important driver of our international growth strategy.”

The goal of Merkur’s continued investment

The investment partnership so far has combined Spintec’s technology in gaming and Merkur’s distribution via its international network, having recently expanded its foothold in the US. Having highlighted those elements in the announcement, it seems that Merkur plans to take Spintec’s ETGs further around the world via this expanded investment.

“Our collaboration creates valuable synergies that enable us to bring these high-quality ETG solutions to a significantly broader audience,” Raasch said. “Building on our achievements to date and further expanding this especially successful strategic partnership was therefore the natural next step for both sides.

“With Spintec at our side, we can offer operators an even broader range of gaming experiences – further strengthening Merkur’s position as a reliable full-service gaming provider.”

Spintec’s ETGs already have a strong presence in Latin and North America, Europe, and large parts of Asia, including established places in a number of Merkur’s own casino properties.

“Over the past years, we have seen just how well Merkur and Spintec complement one another,” said Goran Miškulin, CEO of Spintec. “This is demonstrated especially by our cooperation with Merkur Spielbanken, where our ETG solutions are already successfully deployed in numerous Merkur casino properties.

“I am confident that this investment will allow us to exceed the results of our partnership so far and unlock additional synergies that will create value for both organizations.”

Black Sheep Egg Company initiated a recall following a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspection that found 40 environmental samples at its egg processing facility tested positive for salmonella.

Some of the strains found “are known to cause human illness,” the FDA said.

However, the FDA said there isn’t information available at this time to suggest that this firm is the source of an ongoing outbreak.

Aside from Black Sheep Egg Company’s recall, the FDA is issuing an alert to recommend that consumers, retailers and distributors not eat, sell or serve the recalled Black Sheep Egg Company products.

The company’s 12- and 18-count cartons with “best by” dates of Aug. 22, 2025, through Oct. 31, 2025, were impacted by the recall.

The Arkansas-based egg producer also distributed eggs to other companies in Arkansas and Missouri between July 9, 2025, and Sept. 17, 2025, that may have repackaged them, according to the FDA.

Federal officials say products may have also been further distributed to other states.

Any additional products impacted by this recall will be added to this advisory as information becomes available.

One affected company, Texas-based Kenz Henz, recalled its 12-count packages of its “Grade AA Large Pasture Raised Eggs” last week because the products were supplied by Black Sheep Egg Company and could be contaminated with salmonella.

As tariffs spark worries of higher prices, Walmart is dangling more discounts for its own employees.

The largest private U.S. employer said Wednesday that it will offer a 10% employee discount on nearly all groceries, including milk, meat and frozen food. That discount previously applied to fresh produce and most general merchandise items, such as clothing and toys, but only to other food during the holiday season.

In a memo to employees obtained by CNBC, Walmart’s Chief People Officer Donna Morris said the expanded price cut takes effect immediately. Walmart’s approximately 1.6 million U.S. employees qualify for the discount after their first 90 days with the company. With the expansion, the reduction will now include 95% of regularly priced items across the store, she said.

“We’ve heard your feedback that these savings make a real difference for you and your families,” she wrote in the memo. “And we have continued to hear that you would like to see this benefit expanded. In fact, it’s one of our most requested benefits.”

Walmart’s announcement comes as economists and companies closely watch how rising tariffs trickle through the U.S. economy and shape consumer spending. The consumer price index, a closely watched inflation metric from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, came in better than feared on Tuesday, with food prices flat. Yet the data still pointed to higher prices on some items. For example, household furnishings and supplies rose 0.7% month over month after climbing 1% in June.

Walmart itself has warned that higher prices are coming. Back in May, the company’s CFO John David Rainey told CNBC that the discounter was “wired for everyday low prices, but the magnitude of these increases is more than any retailer can absorb.”

The expanded employee discount could boost Walmart’s own business, too. It could help motivate its huge workforce to spend more of their money at its stores and website rather than at other grocers or retailers. And the perk could also help attract and retain workers.

The big-box giant will report its latest earnings on Aug. 21.

Walmart’s policy change was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

General Motors said Tuesday it will move production of a gas-powered SUV to an assembly plant in Michigan and add manufacturing of pickup trucks in its home state.

“GM will begin production of the Cadillac Escalade, as well as the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra light duty pickups at Orion Assembly in early 2027 to help meet continued strong customer demand,” the Detroit automaker said in a statement.

The Escalade is currently produced in Arlington, Texas. The Silverado and Sierra trucks are made at an assembly plant in Fort Wayne, Indiana, which will continue to produce the vehicles. GM said it is adding more production of the trucks to its Orion Assembly plant in Michigan because of strong demand.

The move builds on GM’s plans to invest $4 billion in U.S. facilities, which the automaker announced in June. That announcement came after President Donald Trump earlier this year implemented 25% tariffs on imported vehicles and 25% duties on many auto parts imported into the U.S.

It also builds on the automaker’s gas-powered vehicle production.

The Orion Assembly plant in suburban Detroit, which is being retooled for gas products, was expected to be its second electric vehicle-exclusive plant in the U.S.

CEO Mary Barra had said in 2021 that GM would exclusively offer EVs by 2035, but the automaker has since said customer demand for EVs has been slower than expected and has shifted plans to meet consumer demand.

Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, is now accessible across the White House campus. It is the latest installation of the Wi-Fi network across the government since Mr. Musk joined the Trump administration as an unpaid adviser.

It was not immediately clear when the White House complex was fitted with Starlink after President Trump took office for a second term.

Starlink terminals, rectangular panels that receive internet signals beamed from SpaceX satellites in low-Earth orbit, can be placed on physical structures. But instead of being physically placed at the White House, the Starlink system is now said to be routed through a White House data center, with existing fiber cables, miles from the complex.

White House officials said the installation was an effort to increase internet availability at the complex. They said that some areas of the property could not get cell service and that the existing Wi-Fi infrastructure was overtaxed.

Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, said the effort was “to improve Wi-Fi connectivity on the complex.”

But the circumstances are different from any previous situation to resolve internet services. Mr. Musk, who is now an unpaid adviser working as a “special government employee” at the White House, controls Starlink and other companies that have regulatory matters before or contracts with the federal government. Questions about his business interests conflicting with his status as a presidential adviser and major Trump donor have persisted for weeks.

In February, Chris Stanley, who currently works as a security engineer at two of Mr. Musk’s companies, SpaceX and the social media platform X, went to the roof of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in the White House complex to explore installing Starlink there. Mr. Stanley has also been working with Mr. Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency as a special government employee.

As Mr. Stanley opened a door leading to the roof of the building, which is directly opposite an entrance to the White House, he tripped an alarm that alerted the Secret Service to his presence. It created a dramatic scene as a uniformed officer rushed to respond, according to four people with knowledge of the incident.

A fifth person with knowledge of the event said Mr. Stanley was told earlier by the Secret Service that he could check out the roof, but the agency had not coordinated a time for Mr. Stanley’s arrival.

Harrison Fields, a White House spokesman, said that the White House “was aware of DOGE’s intentions to improve internet access on the campus” and that it “did not consider this matter a security incident or security breach.”

Anthony Guglielmi, a Secret Service spokesman, also said it was not considered a breach or a security incident.

White House officials said that Starlink had “donated” the service and that the gift had been vetted by the lawyer overseeing ethics issues in the White House Counsel’s Office.

Some former officials were unclear about how such a donation could work.

Clare Martorana, a former chief information officer at the White House during the Biden administration, said that typically people cannot simply give technology to the government. She said the White House’s chief information officer would need to sign off on a new system to ensure it was properly secured, as would the chief information officer at the General Services Administration.

Mr. Stanley worked to set up the new Starlink system in concert with the White House information technology office, which he is an adviser to while also being assigned to work at the Justice Department, one of the people familiar with the matter said.

The White House is the latest government property on which Starlink now operates.

In recent weeks, Starlink was also set up at the General Services Administration, which has served as a hub for Mr. Musk’s government-shrinking efforts, according to documents and people familiar with the service.

While several federal agencies contract with Starlink, the satellite service is typically used to provide internet access in emergency situations and to remote locations — not at federal buildings in Washington, which already have ample internet options.

Starlink is generally seen as a reliable network. In October, the Federal Emergency Management Agency contracted with Starlink to distribute terminals for the service across North Carolina after Hurricane Helene hit the state. The service has also been crucial to Ukraine’s defenses against Russia, with SpaceX estimating to the Defense Department that it cost $400 million to support the effort over a 12-month period around 2022.

It is less clear, however, that the Starlink internet service will significantly expand wireless internet capacity in buildings where fiber cables already provide access.

It was also unclear if Starlink communications were encrypted. At a minimum, the system allows for a network separate from existing White House servers that people on the grounds are able to use, keeping that data separate.

“It’s super rare” to install Starlink or another internet provider as a replacement for existing government infrastructure that has been vetted and secured, said Jake Williams, a vice president for research and development at Hunter Strategy, a cybersecurity consultancy. “I can’t think of a time that I have heard of that.”

“It introduces another attack point,” Mr. Williams said. “But why introduce that risk?”

One official with knowledge of the discussions about installing Starlink at the White House, who was not authorized to speak publicly, said the Secret Service was concerned that the Starlink system might be piped in through existing secure hard wiring at the White House that is used by the Secret Service, as well as other federal agencies. The fact that the internet service is now working through a different data hub appears to have addressed that concern.

At the General Services Administration, where the use of Starlink was reported earlier by NBC News, the service has been added to a list of apps approved for download on the agency’s mobile devices. That list also includes apps of two other Musk-led companies, X and Tesla, according to documents seen by The New York Times.

“Only apps that meet G.S.A.’s security and privacy standards are allowed,” an agency spokesman said in a statement. The agency declined to comment on its use of Starlink.

Mr. Musk has expressed frustration at what he views as outdated technology in government and blazed ahead with an effort to modernize it.

Soon after Mr. Trump was sworn in, Mr. Musk complained that a digital system known as WAVES, which allows the Secret Service to approve guests to enter the White House grounds, was clunky. Some White House officials shared that assessment. Mr. Musk tasked Mr. Stanley with fixing it, according to two people briefed on the matter.

Mr. Guglielmi, the Secret Service spokesman, said the agency “collaborates closely with” Mr. Musk’s team and has continuing discussions. At this time, he added, “no formal changes have been made to the White House visitor access system.”

Jonathan Swan and Tyler Pager contributed reporting.
