The change will take effect on March 31, and Braun will be nominated to the company’s board of directors, Coca-Cola said. Quincey will stay on with the company as executive chairman of its board.

Quincey, 60, has held the top job at the beverage giant since 2017. During that time, he oversaw the refranchising of Coke’s bottling system, the company’s strategy through the Covid pandemic and its focus on beverages perceived as healthier.

Braun, 57, has held various roles at Coke since joining the company in 1996, the same year that Quincey joined. Braun became COO at the beginning of the year.

In a release, Coca-Cola said Braun will focus on identifying new growth opportunities around the world, better filling consumer needs and improving the company’s technology.

Gerry Miller | CNBC

The leadership change comes as the beverage company tries to reverse slower demand for its sodas, which still account for a significant amount of its global sales. In Coke’s third-quarter, global unit case volume — which strips out pricing and foreign currency changes — rose 1% after falling in the previous three-month period.

Quincey has said lower-income consumers have bought fewer of its drinks, and the company has rolled out cheaper and smaller versions of its products to try to reverse the trend. However, pricier brands like Smartwater and Fairlife have performed better than its soda segment in recent quarters, suggesting that consumers are willing to pay more for some brands.

Coca-Cola has also largely outperformed rival Pepsico during Quincey’s tenure, in part due to its stronger out-of-home business in venues like restaurants and movie theaters.

Coke is also winning the soda wars. Its namesake soda has held onto its spot as the best-selling soda in the U.S., and Sprite surpassed Pepsi to become the No. 3 soda in the nation.

Coke’s stock has outperformed Pepsi’s in recent years.

Coke shares were largely unchanged in extended trading Wednesday. The company’s stock has climbed nearly 13% this year, while Pepsi shares have fallen more than 1%.

Coke’s market cap of more than $300 billion outstrips that of Pepsi, which has a market value of roughly $200 billion.

About 1,115 units of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar 12-ounce cans in 12 and 35 packs, 2,322 units of Coca-Cola 12-ounce cans in 24 and 35 packs, and 791 units of Sprite 12-ounce cans in 12 and 35 packs are included in the recall, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The products are considered Class II recalls, which is when the use or exposure to a product “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote,” according to the FDA’s website.

Texas-based Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages LLC initiated the recall on Oct. 3, and the FDA issued the Class II classification a few weeks later.

FOX Business reached out to Coca-Cola for comment.

A spokesperson for the company told Today that the recalled products were distributed in the McAllen/Rio Grande Valley and San Antonio areas of Texas.

Costco’s switch from Pepsi to Coca-Cola drinks at its food courts is underway.

The change at Costco’s food courts “began rolling out across all Costco warehouses” at the beginning of July, The Coca-Cola Company said in a statement to FOX Business.

All of Costco’s food courts will offer Coca-Cola products by the fall.

It comes at a time when President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that Coca-Cola was going to switch to using cane sugar as a sweetener instead of high-fructose corn syrup.

Coca-Cola has neither confirmed nor denied Trump’s claim.

However, it has thrust the drink maker into a brighter spotlight despite its market dominance.

The warehouse retailer’s change to Coca-Cola beverages may not come as a surprise to members considering Costco CEO Ron Vachris said in January the company would be “converting our food court fountain business back over to Coca-Cola” this summer.

It nonetheless marks a big change for Costco food courts, which had offered Pepsi products since 2013.

“Costco insiders and Coca-Cola fans are buzzing about the transition, which will span warehouses in 14 countries, allowing Costco members everywhere to once again enjoy their favorite Coca-Cola beverages alongside Costco’s beloved food court offerings,” Coca-Cola told FOX Business.

Costco’s food courts have started switching from Pepsi to Coca-Cola. AP

The rollout of Coke products began in early July. Christopher Sadowski

Some social media users have posted photos of Costco food courts to Reddit with a Coca-Cola cup visible in the signage for its popular hot dog and soda combo in recent days.

Food courts are one of the many ancillary businesses Costco offers at warehouses along with gas stations, optical departments, hearing aids and tire installation.

Costco has said its ancillary businesses encourage members to make trips to the warehouse retailer more often.

Costco Wholesale

Globally, as of Wednesday, the company’s footprint spanned 908 warehouses, with 625 of them located in the US, according to a press release.

Vachris said during the company’s third-quarter earnings call in late May that it expects to reach 914 locations worldwide by the end of its fiscal year.

In August, seven Costco openings are planned, with warehouses launching in Canada, Mexico and the US, according to a page on the retailer’s website.

Costco will release its fourth-quarter financial results in late September.
